At FIT, informatics is at the centre of our lives every year, all year long. Our aim is to spread the passion for informatics among as many people as possible, and this is what we’ve been doing since the beginning. We organize events for the general and professional public, for ourselves, for random passers-by. Simply put, you’ll never get bored at FIT.

Informatics evenings

The series offers a large dose of informatics, where Czech and foreign experts introduce all informatics enthusiasts to various mysteries and both popular and lesser-known areas of IT. The lectures are popular among students, academic workers and simply anyone interested in informatics. The lectures are in Czech or English.

MARCH AND OCTOBER

COFIT

The jobs fair COFIT, or Companies at FIT, will give you an idea of what to expect in the jobs market or maybe help you find an interesting topic for your thesis. COFIT is held twice a year, and students can use the opportunity to discuss possible cooperation with partner companies.

Meet the Dean

All students of English bachelor and master programs have the opportunity to meet with the Dean, the Vice-Dean for Study Affairs and other representatives of the faculty. For first-year students, it is a chance to learn more about the faculty, meet senior students, ask questions or raise issues.

JUNE–AUGUST

Research Summer at FIT (VýLeT)

Each year, we announce a program of support for students’ summer research – the Research Summer at FIT (abbreviated in Czech as VýLeT, meaning “trip”). The program provides funding to gifted bachelor and master students, allows them to get involved in scientific research activities at the faculty and leads them to independent scientific work and publication activity.

FEBRUARY

Prague PostgreSQL Developers Day

The Prague PostgreSQL Developers Day (P2D2) is a developers conference focused on the relational and open-source database management system PostgreSQL. The two-day event offers lectures and workshops. The event’s narrow focus is good news for apps developers and PostgreSQL administrators. The conference is organized by the Czech and Slovak PostgreSQL User Group (CSPUG).

LAW FIT

The IT field is developing rapidly. So it is no surprise that the relatively rigid Czech law often cannot keep up with this pace. Consequently, questions and legal issues regularly appear whose solution is challenging. That is why, each year, we organize a meeting of experts, where they can discuss the current problems of law and informatics. The conference is open to students and the general public.

JUNE

Prague Embedded Systems Workshop

The FIT Department of Digital Design is a proud organizer of the Prague Embedded Systems Workshop (PESW). It is a meeting place for students and experts in the field of embedded systems, their testing and application. The aim of the workshop, where students’ advancements in research are presented and discussed, is to boost cooperation among universities in Europe and outside Europe.

AUGUST

Prague Stringology Conference

Visitors to the Prague Stringology Conference will have the opportunity to attend lectures by foreign experts in stringology and related fields. This international stringology conference is organized by the Prague Stringology Club at the Department of Theoretical Computer Science.

AUGUST

StringMasters

StringMasters is a travelling workshop which during the year descends on different cities around the world. Some of the workshops are organized by the Prague Stringology Club. The workshop focuses on different disciplines of stringology, e.g. indexing, data compression and bioinformatics. It is a friendly, informal meeting without a fixed program. The event’s main aim is to connect experts in the field.

OCTOBER

LinuxDays

Every year, our faculty hosts the LinuxDays, the biggest event of its kind in the Czech Republic. Linux and open-source geeks can enjoy a weekend full of interesting lectures. The program will give you an idea about which lectures are intended for beginners and which are better suited for professionals.

Open Day

The best way to savour our faculty’s friendly atmosphere is to come to the Open Days. You will find out firsthand that FIT is undoubtedly the best place to study informatics. You will also get all the information about the study possibilities, admission requirements and career options. Current students and teachers will be happy to share their experience with you.

Events for first-year students

SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER

Information meeting

For first-year students, study advisors together with the Office of Study Affairs and PR representatives organize an Information meeting. Students get a brief introduction about how the study at FIT is organized (e.g. study plans, registration to courses, e-learning systems, student communication platforms, contact persons).

September and January/February

Doctoral Students’ Evening

The introductory evening for PhD students helps (mainly) newcomers to get acquainted, fit in and quickly learn the pitfalls of doctoral studies. They will be given their experiences by upper-year students who organize the event with the support of the faculty.
